The LG G Watch R was released in 2015 in the month of October. It sets off from the previously released LG G Watch, which was not so popular. The LG G Watch R boasts of real leather strap, angular black metal along with a circle design, paired with a crown. The back of the smartphone consist of a heart-rate sensor, and while there is a microphone for voice commands, there’s no speaker, so you cannot make or receive calls through it.
Design & Display
The LG G Watch R looks exactly like a normal watch, with its round design complete with a crown. It is not another smart watch with a flat screen, rather LG has laid focus on the design of the overall Watch heavily. From a distance, one can’t even say that it is a smartwatch.
The screen size of the watch is 1.3 inches, and has a resolution of 320 x 320 pixels with a pixel per inch density of 245. A P-OLED type of display is used in the smartwatch’s screen. The screen appears better from the G Watch, with everything looking much more sharper, and the colors appearing better thanks to the P-OLED screen. There’s no ambient light sensor mode so brightness must be set manually.
Software and Hardware
The LG G Watch R runs on the Android operating system, like most of the other smartwatches. There’s no other tweaks that LG has done to the watch. You can change the watch faces to one of your liking, and the notifications pop-up from the bottom of the screen.
The watch will be running on the Android Wear OS, and will come powered with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 chipset, with the processor being Quad-core 1.2 GHz Cortex-A7. The graphical processing unit will be powered by an Adreno 305 chipset. The device supports both Bluetooth and WiFi, and can pair with smartphones, headsets etc.
Storage & Performance
The smartwatch will be having 4 GB of internal storage, and the space can be filled in with music. As there is no headset port or speakers in the device, you can listen to the songs via a Bluetooth headset. 512 MB of RAM is provided inside of the watch for running applications.
The LG G Watch R does will in regards to performance in various aspects. It can show you cards, with appointments, tasks, schedule, weather report etc. and pulls information from your google account. It can respond to the voice commands well to book appointments, or to set reminders. Voice commands can also be used to pull out some information from the internet. However, at times, the watch may listen to your command’s too late or too early.
The smartwatch will be supporting a non-removable 410 mAh battery, which provides an unexpected good battery life. With mediocre usage, you can last a full, without having to plug in the charger. It can also charge pretty fast with the USB charger.
